Insurance

Yes, we accept insurance but that is a very broad question. In optometry, we accept both vision and medical insurance depending on what procedures and findings are performed during an exam.

Vision insurance covers what is considered routine vision. This occurs when an optometrist performs an exam, and the end result is visual correction only. The doctor has checked both vision and eye health and has either determined that no treatment is needed or that glasses and/or contacts will correct the complaint of the patient.

Medical insurance may cover an exam if the doctor finds a medical complication in the patient’s eyes or eyesight. This can be a multitude of things including, but not limited to, cataracts, dry eyes, diabetes, and allergies of the eyes. When this occurs, the doctor will try to file insurance.

At Bright Eyes Family Eyecare, we try to take as many plans as we can, but many factors are involved in which plans we can and do accept. Most medical plans are accepted regardless of being in a patient’s network or not, but some plans, such as HMOs and PPOs, have guidelines that must be met before an exam may be filed. Our staff will make every effort to ensure that we properly handle your insurance, but please understand that we may need your help with identifying your benefits and payments.

Although there are many vision plans, we do not have the ability to accept all of them. Some plans are limited to certain providers. Others we choose not to accept because we cannot control the quality or time it takes for your glasses and contact orders to be completed. If there is any plan that you think we should look into taking, please let us know and we will make an effort to research it and see if it would be a benefit for both our practice and our patients.

Many vision plans are outsourced from your medical plan. We try to help you look up your coverage, but sometimes, due to HIPAA, we are unable to find out any information. To more quickly serve you, finding out your type of plan in advance would expedite your exam and knowledge of your coverage.

Q: Do you accept insurance?

Yes, we accept insurance. We accept both vision and medical insurance depending on what procedures and findings are performed during an exam.

This means that the doctor has checked both vision and eye health and has determined that there are no health problems and that no treatment is needed, or that glasses and/or contacts will correct the vision issue that brought the patient in.

Q: When is medical insurance needed?

Medical insurance may cover an exam if the doctor finds a medical complication in the patient’s eyes or eyesight. Q: Are there any vision plans you do not accept?

Although there are many vision plans, we do not have the ability to accept all of them. Some plans are only valid with certain providers while other plans we choose not to work with because those plans dictate the quality or time it takes for your glasses and contact orders to be completed. Q: How do I know what is and isn’t covered on my insurance plan?

We can often help you answer that question prior to your appointment. Occasionally, though, things aren’t so simple. Some vision plans are outsourced by a part of your medical plan. In this scenario, we will try to help you look up your coverage. Sometimes, though, due to HIPAA, we are unable to find out any information.
